Bordeaux DIY Walking Tour

Bordeaux DIY Walking Tour

Distance: 6.5 km (about 4 miles);  Duration: 2-8 hours

This DIY Walking Tour of Bordeaux is around 6.5 kilometres long (about 4 miles). “Normal” walking speed is around 7km/h (or 4mph); so, at around half that walking speed, this is a very easy, and enjoyable, 2 hour stroll.

But if you actually want to visit some of these places in central Bordeaux, I would allow a full day for this walk (maybe even two days).

The walk itself starts in the Marché des Capucins (as markets are always better first thing in the morning), and ends in the Jardin Public (later in the day when it should be pleasantly warmer).

During this DIY Walking Tour of Bordeaux city centre, you will also pass:

The Marché des Capucins market > Basilique Saint-Michel (and the Flèche de la Basilique Saint-Michel) > Grosse Cloche > Musée d’Aquitaine > Tour Pey-Berland > Cathédrale Saint-André > Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux > Porte Cailhau > Miroir d’Eau > Place de la Bourse > Place du Parlement > Promenade Sainte Catherine > the Grand Theatre (and the National Opera of Bordeaux) > Notre-Dame de Bordeaux > Place des Quinconces (and the Monument aux Girondins) > Natural History Museum > and ending in the leafy Jardin Public (the “green lungs” of Bordeaux).

And because it’s a DIY walking tour of Bordeaux, you can take it at your very own pace; stopping for a coffee/snack/drink where, when, and for as long as you like; lingering at the attractions of Bordeaux city centre which interest you (and speeding past those that don’t).

So if you were to simply rush round without stopping, you could easily complete the entire journey  in around 2 hours – strolling at a very easy pace (allowing you time to fully enjoy your visit to Bordeaux). However, I would recommend taking a full day to fully enjoy your stroll around central Bordeaux.
