Accessible Topography of Terror in Berlin

Berlin’s Topography of Terror is sited in what was the most-feared address in Nazi Berlin:

8 Prinz-Albrecht-Straße.

Gestapo, SS and Reich Security HQ!

And although the building was pulled down after the war, the Soviets later replaced it with the Berlin Wall – remnants of which are now on display in the exterior of the accessible “Topography of Terror” museum.

The main exhibition of the Topography of Terror is available inside the building. You’ll also find the service area, toilets and café here. The exhibition area on the main floor of the building is completely step-free.

Admission to the Topography of Terror is free, and it’s open daily from 8am until 8pm (although it is quietest between 5-8pm in the middle of the week).

English-language Audio Guides to both the indoor “Topography of Terror” exhibition, and the outdoor “The Historic Site of the Topography of Terror” exhibition are available free of charge too. The audio guides last around 60 mins (and as well as using the listening device available, the audio guides can be listened to using your own smartphone).

All display cases and consoles are 80cm in height and are recessed below for ease of wheelchair access.

A wheelchair accessible lift leads down to a library in the basement.

Outside, there are ramps leading down to the lower section of the external exhibition (which details the history of Berlin during the Nazi era between 1933 and 1945).

The actual remnants of the Berlin Wall can be seen from the upper gallery of the external exhibition area. This area of the Topography of Terror is completely wheelchair accessible too.

All other areas of the outdoor site are accessible via paved paths (although the paths in the stand of acacia trees behind the building are slightly uneven in places).
