Barcelona Gaudi DIY Walking Tour: Longer Route
The Barcelona Gaudi DIY Walking Tour has two different route lengths. A longer route of 3.5km (just over 2 miles); and a shorter route of just 1.5km (1 mile). The longer route additionally includes Casa Vicens and the Mercat de la Llibertat (market). Each route is totally step-free & both are slightly downhill.
There are actually 3 different Barcelona DIY Walking Tours. This Barcelona Gaudi DIY Walking Tour; the main Barcelona DIY Walking Tour; and the Barcelona Sagrada Familia DIY Walking Tour.
At a very minimum, I would do all three Barcelona DIY Walking Tours over two or three days (but more time simply means more Barcelona attractions to actually visit – so a whole week would be even better!).
Points of Interest: Casa Vicens, Mercat de la Llibertat, La Pedrera (Casa Milà), Casa Batlló, Casa Amatller, Casa Lleó Morera and finally ending at Plaça de Catalunya.

Barcelona Gaudi DIY Walking Tour - Directions:
[These are very thorough walking directions – you shouldn’t be getting lost in Barcelona when following this guide. However, I definitely recommend that you follow the Google Streetview route of the entire Barcelona Gaudi DIY Walking Tour first, from the comfort of your own home before you head to Barcelona, as this will allow you to better visualise the entire route before you arrive].
START (Longer Route): Metro - Lesseps
[MAP]:
Line L3.
There are two different exits to Lesseps Metro Station. For the accessible exit, follow the signs for the “Plaça de Lesseps” exit, where a lift will take you up to street level.
Turn RIGHT after leaving the accessible exit/lift at Lesseps metro station and you will see a pedestrian road ahead of you. After crossing this road, continue to the junction with Carrer Gran de Gràcia. Turn LEFT at the junction, and head down the lefthand pavement of Carrer Gran de Gràcia (after a few metres, the road forks, but just ignore this, and continue along the lefthand pavement that you are on) until you see a pedestrian crossing ahead of you – which crosses the small sidestreet called Carrer de Nil Fabra.
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de Nil Fabra [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de Nil Fabra.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia until you see yet another sidestreet crossing ahead of you.
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de Betlem [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de Betlem.
Immediately after this small crossing, you will see a second crossing on your RIGHT, which will allow you to cross to the other side of the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia;
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer Gran de Gràcia [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses to the opposite side of Carrer Gran de Gràcia.
After crossing (across to the righthand pavement), turn LEFT, and continue along Carrer Gran de Gràcia until you reach the junction with Carrer de les Carolines (on your RIGHT). Turn RIGHT down Carrer de les Carolines (staying on this righthand pavement), and continue until you see Casa Vicens on your RIGHT.
Casa Vicens
[MAP]:
After visiting Gaudí’s Casa Vicens, and with Casa Vicens at your back, turn LEFT, and return back along Carrer de les Carolines until you reach the junction with Carrer Gran de Gràcia again;
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de les Carolines [MAP]:
When you reach the junction of Carrer de les Carolines and Carrer Gran de Gràcia again, cross over to the right hand side of Carrer de les Carolines at the small crossing, then turn RIGHT into the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia, and continue along the RIGHT hand side of Carrer Gran de Gràcia again until you reach the next pedestrian crossing (at Carrer de Bretón de los Herreros);
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de Bretón de los Herreros [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de Bretón de los Herreros.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia until the next crossing (Rambla de Prat).
Pedestrian Crossing – Rambla de Prat [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses the tree-lined sidestreet of Rambla de Prat.
After crossing, again continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia until the next crossing (Carrer de Sant Marc);
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de Sant Marc [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de Sant Marc.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Carrer Gran de Gràcia again, past the next sidestreet (Carrer del Cigne – there’s no crossing at all here), and continue until the next sidestreet (Carrer de Santa Eugenia), where you should turn RIGHT;
Carrer de Santa Eugenia [MAP]:
Walk down the RIGHT hand side of Carrer de Santa Eugenia, and you will soon see the Mercat de la Llibertat on your right. To reach an accessible entrance, continue walking STRAIGHT AHEAD (past the Mercat de la Llibertat building on your RIGHT), and then turn RIGHT into Plaça de la Llibertat and you will see the step-free entrance to the market on your RIGHT.
Mercat de la Llibertat
[MAP]:
After visiting the Mercat de la Llibertat, retrace your steps to the junction of Carrer de Santa Eugenia and Carrer Gran de Gràcia, turn RIGHT, and continue along the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia until you reach the next crossing, at Travessera de Gràcia;
Pedestrian Crossing – Travessera de Gràcia [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Travessera de Gràcia.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Carrer Gran de Gràcia again, past the next sidestreet (Carrer de Luis Antúnez – there’s no crossing at all here [MAP]), and continue until the next pedestrian crossing, on your LEFT, at Plaça de Nicolás Salmerón which will take you over to the other side of the main Carrer Gran de Gràcia street;
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer Gran de Gràcia at Plaça de Nicolás Salmerón [MAP]:
After crossing to the other side of Carrer Gran de Gràcia here, turn RIGHT, and continue along the lefthand pavement of Carrer Gran de Gràcia until you see the next pedestrian crossing at Carrer de Bonavista;
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de Bonavista [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de Bonavista.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along the main road, which is now called Passeig de Gràcia, until a series of pedestrian crossings take you across the very busy Avinguda Diagonal;
Pedestrian Crossings – Avinguda Diagonal [MAP]:
After crossing Avinguda Diagonal, you will immediately see the stepped exit of the Metro Diagonal station, continue walking STRAIGHT AHEAD down Passeig de Gràcia until the next sidestreet crossing at Carrer del Rosselló;

If following the longer route, you should simply continue walking down Passeig de Gràcia, until you see Casa Milà (La Pedrera) on your LEFT.
Casa Milà (La Pedrera): Long Route
If you are following the shorter route though, this is where you will start this walk. But first you need to get to this point (as the wheelchair accessible lift exit of Metro Diagonal station is on the other side of Passeig de Gràcia).
ATTENTION - Start of shorter Route: Metro - Diagonal
When you exit the Diagonal Metro station lift, simply head for the pedestrian crossing that crosses to the other side of the main Passeig de Gràcia street [MAP].
After crossing, turn RIGHT, and continue walking down Passeig de Gràcia, until you see Casa Milà (La Pedrera) on your LEFT.
Casa Milà (La Pedrera): Short Route
[MAP]:
La Pedrera (Casa Milà) was the final architectural masterpiece of Antoni Gaudí.
And it is seriously popular (and very deservedly so).
So arrive here as early as possible – to avoid the busiest times.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia, until you reach the next pedestrian crossing (which crosses the Carrer de Mallorca sidestreet).

After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia, until you reach the next pedestrian crossing (which crosses the Carrer de València sidestreet);
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de València [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses Carrer de València.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia, until you reach the next pedestrian crossing on your right (which crosses to the other side of the main Passeig de Gràcia);
Pedestrian Crossing – Passeig de Gràcia [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses to the other side of the main Passeig de Gràcia street.
After crossing, turn LEFT and you will see another crossing in front of you (you will also now see Casa Batlló on the opposite side of that next crossing at Carrer d’Aragó);
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer d’Aragó [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses the Carrer d’Aragó sidestreet.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia, and to Casa Batlló on your RIGHT.
Casa Batlló
[MAP]:
Casa Batlló, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Antoni Gaudí’s greatest masterpieces in central Barcelona.
After visiting Casa Batlló, turn RIGHT as you leave, and you will see Casa Amatller next door.
Casa Amatller
[MAP]:
Casa Amatller, built in the Modernisme style, was designed by renowned Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.
After seeing Casa Amatller, continue along Passeig de Gràcia until you see the wonderful Casa Lleó i Morera building at the corner (on your RIGHT).
Casa Lleó i Morera
[MAP]:
Casa Lleó i Morera is one of the finest “Modernisme” buildings in Barcelona.
Sadly, accessible visits are not possible. But the official Casa Lleó i Morera website has a fantastic video which highlights all the architectural marvels of the interior:

After passing Casa Lleó i Morera on Passeig de Gràcia, you will see the next pedestrian crossing on the same corner (at the junction with Carrer del Consell de Cent);
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer del Consell de Cent [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses the Carrer del Consell de Cent sidestreet.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia again until you reach the next pedestrian crossing at Carrer de la Diputació;
Pedestrian Crossing – Carrer de la Diputació [MAP]:
Light-controlled; dropped kerbs. Crosses the Carrer de la Diputació sidestreet.
After crossing, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia, until you reach the next junction/pedestrian crossing at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes;
Pedestrian Crossings – Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes [MAP]:
Both crossings are light-controlled; with dropped kerbs at all points. Crosses Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes.
After crossing both crossings, continue STRAIGHT AHEAD, along Passeig de Gràcia until you reach Plaça de Catalunya;
Pedestrian Crossing – Plaça de Catalunya [MAP].
Plaça de Catalunya
ATTENTION: The main entrance to Plaça de Catalunya Metro station is not wheelchair accessible. However, there is an accessible entrance to Plaça de Catalunya Metro station: the wheelchair accessible lift at the corner of Plaça de Catalunya and Ronda de la Universitat at the northwest corner of Plaça de Catalunya.
There is also an accessible toilet within the Plaça de Catalunya Metro station.
