Street Library Supporter Linda (@LindaFallows2 on Twitter) is also using her Street Library books to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Founded in 1992 as the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, the organisation rebranded to its current name and has grown into a major force in the field, emphasising the power of research to create a world free from dementia’s impact.
Their mission is straightforward: to stand for a cure, supporting breakthroughs that address the genetic, lifestyle, and environmental factors contributing to dementia, which affects nearly one million people in the UK today and claims a new case every three minutes.
ARUK has funded well over 1,200 research projects worldwide – and committed more than £237 million to dementia research.
Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron served as president from 2017 to 2023, stepped down briefly, and returned to the role in February 2025.
ARUK distinguishes itself from similar organisations like Alzheimer’s Society, which focuses more on care, support, and advocacy for those living with dementia, though both contribute to the broader fight against the condition.
Alzheimer’s Research UK maintains the Dementia Statistics Hub for data on prevalence, costs, and research trends.
