Getting from Barcelona to Mallorca.
There are two different ferry companies operating boats between Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca on the beautiful island of Mallorca (Trasmediterránea and Baleària). There is little between them on price and service, so either will do the job (however, my own personal choice will always be Trasmediterránea – thanks to the staff in the ticket office in Barcelona).
Be careful when booking though. Baleària also operate ferries to Alcúdia in the north of Mallorca too. Avoiding this confusion is just another reason to book with Trasmediterránea in the first place 😉
As you will be returning to Barcelona, for the continuation of this Around the World by Train journey, it will be simpler just to book a return journey to start with.
If sailing overnight, splash out for a cabin (the normal reclining chairs are OK for one night I suppose, but a proper bed is so much more enjoyable).
