19 of the best rooftop bars in Amsterdam this Summer
After a day of walking in Amsterdam, relax with a cocktail or two, and enjoy the sun going down on the city in one of the 19 best rooftop bars in Amsterdam.
1. GAPP @ Hotel Casa Amsterdam
Eerste Ringdijkstraat 4, 1097 BC Amsterdam
GAPP is a hip rooftop beer garden, located on the 8th floor of the Hotel Casa Amsterdam, high above the bustling city. Charming and airy, GAPP is a rooftop oasis of plants and flowers – with a stunning panoramic view of the Amsterdam skyline.
Craft beers and cocktails on a sunny Amsterdam afternoon = smiles all round.
Very friendly and welcoming (to non-residents too).
Opening Hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00 until 20:00; Closed on Mondays & Tuesdays.
Dress Code: Casual.

2. The Roof Terrace @ NEMO Science Museum
Oosterdok 2, 1011 VX Amsterdam
The roof terrace at NEMO is currently closed for renovation (it re-opens on May 27th, when more info will be added here). You can expect the addition of lots of lush greenery with your view of Amsterdam though.
As before, it will still be possible to visit the roof terrace for free (without having to buy a ticket for the museum). You simply take the lift (elevator), on the side of the building, up to the roof.
Not the most glam rooftop in Amsterdam, perhaps. But there’s usually always a spot to be had, the drinks are way more affordable, and the view of Amsterdam from up there is pretty amazing.
Accessible?
Yes.
But.
The sloping roof means that wheelchair users are restricted to where they arrive (which is at the lowest point of the roof if you’re taking the free option). And you don’t get to experience the whole terrace layout (unless they’re planning to add a ski-jump – with a watery ending in the Oosterdok!).
However. If you have actually paid to visit NEMO (which is a learning experience aimed more at children), then you can take the internal lift up to the cafe, which is at the highest point of the roof terrace. This is my recommendation for families.
Otherwise, head to the nearby LuminAir (detailed next – it’s a more classy affair at LuminAir though, so make sure that your wallet is full).
3. LuminAir (formerly the SkyLounge).
DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, Oosterdoksstraat 4, 1011 DK Amsterdam
The Bar Above Amsterdam.
Perched on the 11th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station hotel, the chic and classy LuminAir probably has the best view in Amsterdam (especially during sunset).
The LuminAir bar/restaurant has an indoor/outdoor setup. The stylish indoor Lounge features floor-to-ceiling windows, which leads out to an amazing open-air terrace.
And the cocktails! Even better than the incredible view.
Reservations are highly recommended.
Opening Hours: Daily, 11.00 – 00.00 (until 03:00 on Fridays & Saturdays).
Dress Code: Smart casual.
Official Website: https://www.luminairamsterdam.com
Accessible.
4. Restaurant Babel @ OBA
Oosterdokskade 143, 1011 DL Amsterdam
There is a third option in this area. It’s situated between both NEMO and LuminAir. And it’s a real hidden gem in Amsterdam (few visitors know that it’s actually here – possibly because the official website is written in Dutch only?).
The 7th floor foodcourt/restaurant/cafe, and more importantly, the rooftop terrace, of the Central Library of OBA (Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam, or just OBA for short, is the Public Library of Amsterdam).
Opening Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 22:00; Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 to 20:00.
Official Website: https://babel.amsterdam (In Dutch only – but translated by Google here).
Accessible.
5. Canvas @ Volkshotel Amsterdam
Wibautstraat 150, Oost-Watergraafsmeer, 1091 GR Amsterdam
Perched on the 7th floor rooftop of the Volkshotel in Amsterdam, and offering some stunning 360-degree panoramic views of the Amsterdam skyline, the uber-cool Canvas is a laid-back, and fairylight-lit, vibrant rooftop bar, restaurant, and club.
By day, Canvas is a relaxed spot for meals or drinks, with a casual atmosphere ideal for enjoying the view from the wooden picnic tables on the terrace (the Canvas roof terrace is usually very busy in good weather – so get here early if the Amsterdam sun has got his hat on).
On Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights after 11:00 PM though, and fuelled by excellent cocktails and great music, the Amsterdam party really starts when Canvas transforms into Club Canvas (where resident DJs spin hip-hop and electronic music – filling the lively dancefloor with beautiful people).
An Amsterdam favourite.
Opening Hours: Daily, from 07:00 (from 08:00 on Saturdays and Sundays); until 01:00 (until 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays).
Dress Code: Casual.
Official Website: https://www.volkshotel.nl/canvas/
Accessible. Canvas is accessible via the main entrance of the Volkshotel (the doors are quite heavy though, so wheelchair users may require assistance). There is also a wheelchair-friendly toilet on the ground floor.
6. A’DAM Lookout
Overhoeksplein 5, 1031 KS Amsterdam
Just across the River IJ from Amsterdam Centraal Station (the ferry is free – and accessible), you will find the A’DAM Lookout (perched on top of the revolving Panorama Restaurant on the 20th floor of the A’DAM Tower).
Restaurant, bar – and rooftop terrace. All with breathtaking panoramic views over Amsterdam.
And if you’re looking for a really breathtaking experience, jump on the swings – for an “over-the-edge” experience you’ll never forget (for the brave only though).
At night, a live DJ transforms A’DAM LOOKOUT into the highest dance floor in Amsterdam.
Opening Hours: Daily, 10:00 to 22:00.
Dress Code: Casual.
Official Website: https://www.adamlookout.com/
Accessible (except for the swings of course – a great excuse for the not-so-daring perhaps?).
7. Mondi SkyBar 747 @ Corendon Village Hotel
Schipholweg 275, 1171 PK Badhoevedorp
The laid-back yet sophisticated Mondi SkyBar 747 is a Caribbean-inspired rooftop bar and restaurant on the 9th floor of the Corendon Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel in Badhoevedorp, near Amsterdam. It offers panoramic views of Amsterdam, Badhoevedorp, Haarlem, and Schiphol Airport, making it a great spot for plane spotting. The bar features a vibrant atmosphere with live entertainment, including jazz, soul, salsa, and piano music from Wednesday to Sunday. The menu includes creative cocktails, curated wines, beers, and international dishes with Caribbean influences, like tacos, ceviche, BBQ gamba, and baka ribs.
A bit out of the centre though, so really only an option if you’re out this way (or you’re staying near Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport).
Opening Hours: Wednesday–Thursday: 15:00 to Midnight; Friday: 15:00 to 01:00; Saturday: 12:00 to 01:00; Sunday: 12:00 to 23:00.
Dress Code: Smart casual.

Mauritskade 61, 1092 AD Amsterdam
Fitz’s on the Roof on the 5th floor of the 5* Pillows Maurits at the Park Grand Boutique Hotel, is elegant, intimate and very stylish. Transporting you to the Roaring 20s in chic luxury.
The main action happens in Fitz’s Bar. But when the weather is playing nice, the mixologists move upstairs to the even more intimate roof terrace.
The roof terrace is small though. But this just adds to its exclusivity.
And the well-crafted cocktails from the expert mixologists at Fitz’s make this an Amsterdam experience to cherish. Try the signature “Essence No.5” cocktail (Catz Dry Gin, Rabarbaro, Champagne Acid, Vanilla Orange blossom, London Essence Peach & Jasmine Soda).
