Accessible Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel
3* Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel
Princes Street, Edinburgh EH2 2DG
Location, location, location!
The Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel is located directly on Princes Street, facing Princes Street Gardens, with the Scott Monument just metres away. As is Edinburgh Waverley Train Station (the main Train Station in Edinburgh).
Accessible Parking:
There is no accessible parking on-site (there are no parking facilities at all).
Neither are there accessible parking spaces on the nearby streets.
The Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel has an agreement with Q-Park though, who operate the car park below the nearby OMNi shopping centre (an easy, and level, 10-minute stroll away). Guests of Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel are given a 35% discount, but to receive this discount you must BOOK in advance, using the discount code: MHED35.
However, Edinburgh Waverley Train Station is even closer (just across the road). So my advice would be to simply leave your car at home, and travel to Edinburgh on a wonderfully accessible ScotRail or LNER train.
Accessible Entrance:
It’s not straightforward (but definitely possible). You may need assistance though, as the gradient of the second ramp is quite steep (you may need an assistant to push you up the ramp, if using a manual wheelchair; or to stand behind you in case you topple, if using a powerchair).
Ramp 1: There’s a single step up from the pavement. A small portable ramp will allow access. This ramp is not permanently available though – but there is a call bell that allows you to speak to Reception, or alternatively your companion can go up to Reception themselves, and the staff will happily bring it down. A bit of a pain every time you leave/enter again though.
Ramp 2: This is where it can get tricky though. After negotiating the initial single step up from the pavement, and then passing through the main entrance doors to the Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel, you face a small flight of four steps.
A second, more substantial, manual ramp enables access (it is a fairly steep gradient though). Although this is a temporary ramp (metal), it is always left in place.
Once you have passed these two obstacles, you then have to take a lift (accessible) up to the Reception area on the 1st Floor.
Once inside though, there are no accessibility issues.
As well as the accessible bathrooms in the accessible bedrooms, a smaller accessible toilet is also available in the Reception area.
