Accessible Holiday Inn Express London - Southwark
3* Holiday Inn Express London - Southwark
103-109 Southwark Street, London, SE1 0JQ
The Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark is located just behind the accessible Tate Modern art gallery, which is on the route of the wheelchair accessible London Thames DIY Walking Tour. And because of this, plus the number of accessible restaurants nearby, and the easy access to two nearby supermarkets, the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark is my own personal choice of accessible hotel in London.
Accessible Parking:
There are two parking options at the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark:
There is one underground car park located in the basement of the hotel (“first come first served” basis). Parking here costs £35/night.
The maximum height is 1.7m.
There is a lift here – which leads directly to the main Reception level of the hotel. Totally step-free.
There are also 2 on-street parking spaces available outside of the property, where guests can park as well (the cost to park here is £25.00 each night). Parking here is also based on “first come first served” though.
Accessible Entrance:
There are steps up to the main entrance of the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark.
However, there is a separate accessible entrance (ramp) at the rear of the building. To access the accessible entrance, as you are facing the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark hotel building, follow the building around to the right, where you will see the start of the accessible ramp on your left (it has a handrail). The ramp leads to an automatic rear door.
Once inside this door, you will immediately see an accessible toilet, with a sliding door, on your left.
An internal door (not automatic – it pulls towards you) then takes you into the main foyer of the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark. Turn LEFT, to reach the Reception area.
Accessible Reception:
There is a lowered section of the Reception counter at the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark. Additionally, there is a gap at the end of the counter, which allows the Reception staff to use if needed.
Accessible Public Areas:
The ground floor foyer area is completely wheelchair accessible.
Immediately opposite the Reception desk, there is a seating area. The seats and tables here are low though, so it will probably be easier if you remain in your wheelchair.
After the door leading to the accessible exit/accessible toilet, you will find the self-service breakfast buffet area. There is always a member of Staff here during the breakfast service, who will happily remove a chair from your table if needed (there is ample room for wheelchair footrests, and your legs, below these tables).
Accessible Bedrooms:
The Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark has 24 accessible bedrooms, located on various floors. All accessible bedrooms are located near a dedicated wheelchair accessible lift (at the far end of the building – this lift is also used by the hotel Staff to transport larger trolleys).
Connecting bedrooms, for use by carers, are also available.
Accessible Bathrooms:
In addition to the accessible toilet located near the accessible entrance to the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark, which is of a good size, each of the 24 accessible rooms are equipped with an accessible bathroom too (wetroom-style, with roll-in showers, and wall-mounted shower chairs).
Small, but pefectly formed.
Accessible Eating Options:
A breakfast buffet counter is open each morning.
Other than this, the Holiday Inn Express London – Southwark has no other eating options, or restaurant.
However, there are two supermarkets (Co-op and Amazon Fresh) located on the opposite side of the main road – less than 100 metres away. And a Sainsbury’s Local, and a Tesco Express, not far away at all. So you’re retty well-covered for snacks/drinks and anything else you might need.
Plus, there are numerous restaurants in the area (the nearby Wagamama Bankside has a great accessible toilet too).
