London West End DIY Walking Tour: What to expect

The circular London West End DIY Walking Tour covers a distance of just over 6km.

And because it’s a circuit, you can start/end the walk at any point along the route (depending on the location of your London hotel perhaps?).

Spending time at the London attractions which interest you, speeding past those that don’t – and stopping to eat and drink wherever and whenever you want (and for as long as you’d like).

Points of Interest: Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, St.James’s Park, Buckingham Palace, Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery, Whitehall, Horseguard’s Parade, Downing Street and finally returning to Westminster Underground Station.

Enjoy the very best of central London. At YOUR pace!

Travel smarter - and really enjoy London

Sadly, one of the more debilitating results of my condition is fatigue.

And due to the progressive nature of ataxia, the fatigue just gets worse as the days pass.

Which means that I have to find the easiest way to get from A to B.

I’m also a greedy traveller too though. I just need to see everything that a city has to offer. Including during the evening – so I have to ensure that I still have the energy to enjoy London by night too.

Fortunately, I lived in London for 10 years when I was younger. So I kind of know where things are in relation to each other.

And, rather importantly now, I know the easiest way to get between them.

So, my experience is your guide now.

I know the easiest way to see as much of London as possible during the day. Leaving me the energy to enjoy my London evening’s too.

Travelling smarter – by necessity.

London West End DIY Walking Tour: Step-by-Step Walking Instructions

Detailed step-by-step walking instructions are based on Google StreetView (so include 360-degree photographs of every street-crossing and junction – and for other wheelchair users/stroller-pushers, the location of every dropped kerb).

Additionally, a 76-minute realtime video of the entire route is also available. Allowing you to see the exact time between each London attraction.

These are very thorough walking directions (you shouldn’t be getting lost in London following them). However, I definitely recommend that you do two things first. And now, from the comfort of your own home before you head to London:

  1. Follow the Google Streetview route of the entire London West End DIY Walking Tour route. This will allow you to better visualise the entire route before you arrive.
  2. More importantly though, I would watch the entirety of the 76-minute step-by-step video. And as many times as possible before you even arrive in London. As this will give you a feel for the route that you will be following, and may spark other ideas of your own, once you see what’s possible.
The video was filmed/produced in ultra-high 4K definition, giving you a realtime, and step-by-step, guide to the entire route. And because it has been filmed in such high definition, you can easily see the layout of every junction that you will come to (and, for other wheelchair-users, every inch of the road/pavement surface that you will have to roll over, and the location of every junction and dropped kerb that will need to use).

Felix (the new name for FareShare)

These DIY Walking Tours are a fundraising initiative though (in aid of Felix – FareShare).

And the detailed walking directions (plus the 76-minute step-by-step video guide) are available to donors only.

The links to the instructions/video are sent to the email address which you supply during the donation process, so double-check that it is correct.

Why Felix (FareShare)?

With your support, Felix is able to supply free food to over 8,000 local charities and community groups throughout the UK.

Every single week.

And some of that food is then used to help feed the most vulnerable people in your very own community.

So, by donating to Felix, you are actually supporting local charities/community groups/foodbanks – and the people that they help.

And everybody wins.

You get a detailed guide to London’s West End (which will save you time and effort when you’re visiting London); and the most vulnerable people in your very own community, are supported.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your very kind support.

At a very minimum, I would do all four London DIY Walking Tours over three or four days though (but even more time simply means more London attractions to actually visit – so a whole week would be even better!).

And, to thank you for your one donation, I’ll give you the detailed instructions for them all (in fact, I’ll actually give you the detailed instructions for all 24 DIY Walking Tours – hopefully giving you ideas for your future trips too?).

Please share this with any friends it may help:
