Accessible Rodin Museum in Paris
The fully wheelchair accessible Musée Rodin is an oasis of calm in central Paris!
Lifts and ramps mean that both the house and the gardens (where many of the sculptures can be found too) are fully accessible to wheelchair users.
The wonderful café in the garden is fully wheelchair accessible too. The café has an outdoor seating area (and also an indoor seating area – for any times that the weather is not playing so nice).
Wheelchair ramps, and a wheelchair accessible lift, make the entirety of the Musée Rodin wheelchair accessible.
All paths in the garden of the Musée Rodin, including the paths that lead to the café, have been adapted to ensure that they too are fully wheelchair accessible (meaning that no public areas of the Musée Rodin are “out of bounds” to wheelchair-using visitors).
The golden dome of Les Invalides, and the top of the nearby Eiffel Tower can be seen overlooking the sculptures in the garden too.
Getting to the Rodin Museum in Paris using Public Transport
Metro (subway):
None of the Metro/RER stations near the Musée Rodin are wheelchair accessible.
Bus:
A number of Paris bus lines serve the Musée Rodin though. See the official RATP Bus Map for details.
All 4,500 buses in Paris have an automatic/retractable wheelchair ramp (controlled by the bus driver).
The “Saint-François-Xavier” bus stop (bus line 86) and the “Grenelle – Bellechasse” bus stop (bus line 69) are both wheelchair accessible.
However, and although it may seem closer (especially if you are combining your visit to the Musée Rodin with a visit to wheelchair accessible Les Invalides), the bus stop at Place Vauban (bus lines 82 & 92) is one of the few bus stops in the centre of Paris which is NOT wheelchair accessible yet.
Wheelchair Accessible Taxis in Paris?
G7 are one of the biggest taxi companies in France, and have over 200 wheelchair accessible taxis in Paris alone.
They have a dedicated telephone number for their “G7 Access” service: +33(0)1 47 39 00 91. Your Paris hotel reception should be only too happy to call them from your hotel – or you can order a taxi on their website (at www.g7.fr), or via their free app.
My recommendation though?
WALK (roll)!
The Musée Rodin is just one stop on the Paris DIY Walking Tour route (which also includes the Arc de Triomphe, Place du Trocadéro, Palais de Chaillot, the Eiffel Tower, École Militaire, Les Invalides, Musée Rodin, Pont Alexandre III, Grand Palais, Petit Palais, Jardin des Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde, Jardin des Tuileries, Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel, the Louvre Museum and ending on the Pont des Arts (at sunset?).
As this walk includes most of the “must see” Paris attractions, it’s rather a long walk (just over 8km – about 5 miles). So you may want to do it in two stages? Breaking your journey at the Musée Rodin would be my best recommendation though (as there’s a wonderful outdoor café here, to enjoy at the end of the first stage of the walk when split – and the garden in the Musée Rodin is so peaceful that you will find it hard to believe that you’re still actually in the centre of Paris).
Accessible Entrance to the Rodin Museum in Paris
The accessible entrance to the Musée Rodin is at 79 rue de Varenne – 20 metres to the right of the main entrance.
Entrance is free to wheelchair users and one companion (documentary evidence is required).
A map of the Musée Rodin, and an audioguide, are available from the information desk.
Accessible Toilets at the Rodin Museum in Paris
The wheelchair accessible toilets at the Musée Rodin have push-button automatic doors.
These wheelchair accessible toilets are located on the 1st Floor (near the lift), and also in the sculpture garden (next to the outdoor café).
Accessible Cafe/Restaurant at the Rodin Museum in Paris
The indoor/outdoor café “L’Augustine”, nestled in the Musée Rodin’s sculpture garden, serves light meals and snacks, plus a seasonal dish of the day.
