Accessible Glasgow Science Centre
The Glasgow Science Centre is one of the “must-see” visitor attractions in Scotland.
Showcasing science and technology in unique and inspiring ways. Experiences include the Science Mall, Glasgow Tower, the Planetarium and an IMAX Cineworld theatre.
The gleaming three-storey titanium crescent building of the Glasgow Science Centre overlooks the River Clyde in central Glasgow – three floors packed with hundreds of interactive exhibits that will fascinate and intrigue the most curious of young minds. The Science Mall also plays host to interactive workshops, plus the Science Show Theatre, the Lab and the state-of-the-art Planetarium.
Science Communicators (the staff at the Glasgow Science Centre) help make your experience memorable.
Although the main building is set over four floors, wheelchair accessible lifts mean that all floors in the Glasgow Science Centre are wheelchair accessible.
There are also dedicated wheelchair spaces in each of the auditoriums: IMAX (4 spaces), Science Show Theatre (6 spaces), the Auditorium (4 spaces), and the Planetarium (6 spaces).
Accessible Parking at the Glasgow Science Centre
There are 10 accessible parking spaces at the Glasgow Science Centre.
Parking is free for Blue Badge holders (but you should still purchase a parking ticket as normal – and then present this when you purchase an admission ticket – when your parking costs will be deducted from your admission ticket cost).
There is also a drop off point at the front of the main building.
Getting to the Glasgow Science Centre using Public Transport
Bus:
The wheelchair accessible CitySightseeing Glasgow “Hop On/Hop Off” bus stops at the SEC (just across the River Clyde from the Glasgow Science Centre). So simply get off there, and walk (roll) across the river via the pedestrian-only Millennium Bridge.
Taxi:
To call a wheelchair accessible taxi, call Glasgow Taxis (+44[0]141 429 7070). ALL their taxis are fitted with a wheelchair ramp.
Otherwise, just pick up a wheelchair accessible taxi at the nearest taxi rank. There is a taxi rank on Gordon Street – directly outside the main entrance to Glasgow Central Station.
My advice if you want to arrive/leave by public transport, would be to simply take an accessible taxi here from central Glasgow (or arrive on the Glasgow Hop On Hop Off bus, getting off at the SEC, and walking across the bridge).
Walking/rolling:
I would definitely definitely definitely recommend that you take your initial taxi (or the City Sightseeing Glasgow Hop On Hop Off bus) all the way to the Riverside Museum first (also wheelchair accessible), and visit the Glasgow Science Centre (and also the wheelchair accessible Clydeside Distillery) as you walk/roll back to central Glasgow on the Glasgow Riverside DIY Walking Tour route.
Or vice versa: walk/roll from Glasgow Central train station along the Glasgow Riverside DIY Walking Tour route to the wheelchair accessible Riverside Museum (visiting the Glasgow Science Centre along the way), then return to the centre of Glasgow by taxi (which you can call from the Riverside Museum), or return on the Hop On Hop Off bus from the SEC.
Access - Entrance to the Glasgow Science Centre
All main entrances to the Glasgow Science Centre are wheelchair accessible.
One carer is admitted free of charge.
Manual wheelchairs are available to borrow during your visit to the Glasgow Science Centre.
Accessible Toilets at the Glasgow Science Centre
Three wheelchair accessible toilets are located in the Science Mall (the main building). One on each of the Ground Floor, Floor 2 and Floor 3. There are also wheelchair accessible toilets in the Cineworld IMAX theatre and the Glasgow Tower.
A Changing Places toilet can also be found on the Ground Floor of the Science Mall.
Accessible Cafe/Restaurant at the Glasgow Science Centre
The wheelchair accessible Taste Café is located on the Ground Floor of the main Science Mall building. The Ground Floor wheelchair accessible toilet is nearby.
There is also an outdoor eating area (terrace) at the Glasgow Science Centre which is wheelchair accessible too.
