Getting There – Arrival at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

There are 10 accessible parking spaces at the rear of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum building.

There is a small wheelchair ramp between EACH accessible parking space – allowing you to easily negotiate the kerb.

Accessible parking is free for Blue Badge holders.

Entrance – Access to Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

There is a small wheelchair accessible lift just to the LEFT of the steps leading up to the main entrance (the entrance facing Argyle Street). The lift leads to both the Main/Ground Floor and to the Lower Ground floor too.

There is also a step-free accessible entrance at the rear entrance (the entrance beside the car park). This leads to the Lower Ground floor(and the internal wheelchair accessible lifts can then be used to reach the Ground & Upper Floors).

Admission to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum is free of charge. BUT.

The museum is actually run by a charity – which relies on the continued generous support of the many friends, donors and volunteers who enable them to care for the museum collections, offer visitors an inspirational experience and provide exceptional education services for thousands of people each year.

So, when you see a “donation” box during your visit, please make a donation. You can also donate online.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum Accessibility

ALL public areas & exhibitions at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum are wheelchair accessible (using the wheelchair accessible public lifts where needed).

Wheelchair Accessible Toilets in Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

There are wheelchair accessible toilets on all floors of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.

Wheelchair Accessible Cafe/Restaurant in Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

There are two places to eat & drink in the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. And both are very much wheelchair accessible:

The museum cafe serves drinks & snacks (and coffee of course), and is ideal for grabbing a quick bite. Normally, there is no table service here. However, staff will be very happy to bring food/drinks over to a wheelchair user’s table.

For something a bit more substantial to eat, and to enjoy a much quieter atmosphere, head down to the restaurant on the Lower Ground floor. Here, table service is available.

See the Wheelchair Accessible Glasgow Guide for details of other wheelchair accessible attractions, restaurants and hotels in Glasgow.

If this information has assisted you in planning your travels with your wheelchair, please consider making a donation to my Virtual Kiltwalk appeal for 2022 – in aid of FareShare. And thanks to an ADDITIONAL donation of 50% by Sir Tom Hunter, FareShare will actually receive 150% of the amount that you donate!

Thanks, Iain.
