Ayr is reasonably flat, so is a great day out for wheelchair users.
The land does rise slightly as you move away from the seafront though (but not to any significant level – it’s still fairly flat). However, Ayr train station is located at the highest point, so it is all downhill from there to the seafront.
And if you do follow the Ayr Riverside Walk downriver (as suggested) and the connected Ayr Seafront Walk from north to south, then that is all downhill too.
You will need to use a readily-available wheelchair accessible taxi to reach the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Burns Cottage in Alloway though. These taxis can almost always be found on the taxi rank immediately outside Ayr train station.
Getting to Ayr
The main train station is Ayr Train Station.
ScotRail provides train services to Ayr from other cities in Scotland.
Getting around Ayr
As Ayr is a reasonably small town – walking/rolling is pretty much all that is needed to visit the town centre and the magnificent seafront.
Should you need one, wheelchair accessible taxis are easy to find (and nearly all larger taxis are now fitted with a wheelchair ramp).
