Virtual Kiltwalk - CANCELLED

First, the “not-so-good” news:

In their infinite wisdom, the organisers of October’s “Virtual Kiltwalk” have decided to cancel it:

And if it wasn’t for the fact that I love what they do in general, I’d be rather more annoyed than I am:

I’ve spent the last 6 months researching a planned tour of all of the “Kiltwalk Cities” (Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee & Edinburgh) which I had also planned to film – and use as a video showcase of the wheelchair accessible facilities found in each. This tour would actually have been in September – with the videos being subsequently created, and then shown during the actual Virtual Kiltwalk weekend in October.

All train tickets have already been bought; all hotels booked; the lady who would have been pushing me lives in Portugal, and has bought flights; and I’ve also spent a serious amount of money buying the two video cameras that we would use.

But all is not lost (“Every cloud…” and all that):

By chance, the 4 FareShare depots in Scotland just happen to be in the same 4 cities (Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee & Edinburgh). So what would have been a tour of “Kiltwalk Cities” in Scotland, is easily changed to become a tour of “FareShare in Scotland” (plus London – which has also been included in plans).

So all can still go ahead as planned!

And the Kiltwalk people will still add 50% to all fundraising to date.

So a wee payment of £1,143 is heading to FareShare in the next few days.

Which makes the disappointment a wee bit easier to accept. But this was just what was raised before the event even happened. It was hoped to be SO much more though – during both the tour and the Virtual Kiltwalk weekend itself.

Still, thank you all SO VERY MUCH for the donations already made. As a result of your kindness, FareShare will be able to provide another 4,572 meals to some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.

Iain.
