Signed Books: new or pre-loved books (in a new/new-ish condition)
As a result of the Kiltwalk organisers’ decision to cancel the Virtual Kiltwalk in October, I now have 27 signed books here – which now have no home (I had planned to auction them as part of the Virtual Kiltwalk Weekend in October).
But thanks to the fundraising I’ve already done this year, and which the Kiltwalk will still top-up by 50%, £1,143 will be heading to FareShare in the next few days anyway.
So it wasn’t a complete waste of time.
But this was just what was raised so far – the actual event in October would have raised so much more.
All is not lost though....
I have a friend who is the fundraising co-ordinator at the Beatson Cancer Charity in Glasgow.
Paul was actually diagnosed with cancer himself (testicular), and was successfully treated at the Beatson in 2013.
As a result, he has been fundraising for them ever since. And very successfully too:
Raising over £100,000 for the Beatson to date!
And next year, to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of his successful treatment at the Beatson, he is holding a very special auction.
So I’ve decided just to donate all 27 signed books to him.
As doing this, also solves a wee issue I had:
Of the 27 books, most I bought myself (or won as prizes in various competitions). So no problem there. However, some books were donated to me by authors/publishers – because I specifically told them they’d be auctioned for charity.
So this answers that wee problem.
And because it’s for the Beatson too now, the books’ exposure will be even greater than promised. So I can now see these authors & publishers being even happier.
His auction won’t start until the New Year, however I am collecting even more signed books for him between now and then. So if you would like to donate a signed book for his auction, again please post to:

Unsigned Books: surplus or pre-loved books (in a new/new-ish condition)
I’m also collecting unsigned books for distribution among FareShare staff & volunteers just prior to Christmas.
A wee Christmas gift to say “Thank You” to them for continuing to distribute much-needed food to the most vulnerable people in the UK during lockdown (an often-overlooked effort – so this is really just a way to say “we see you – and we Thank You”).
Because the books will be given to staff/volunteers as a way of saying “Thank You” though, any used books should be in an almost new condition.
And as a wee bonus for donors of multiple books:
Donate at least 3 books and you will be featured as a co-sponsor of one of the weekly book giveaway competitions on Twitter:
If you would like to donate any unsigned books, please send to:

A FareShare volunteer will then collect the books from here.
Thank You all so very much!
